  • Tournament in Andalucía will be open for fans to attend when tees off August 5-7

  • Aramco Team Series - Sotogrande counts towards Solheim Cup qualification and the 2021 Race to Costa del Sol

Sotogrande’s La Reserva Club has been officially announced as the location for the Aramco Team Series - Sotogrande on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

The three-day tournament will take place from August 5-7, at the stunning Andalucían venue, which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea.

The innovative $1 million Aramco-backed event will be open for fans to attend and follows hot on the heels of this month’s debut Aramco Team Series – London. There will be an $800,000 team prize, along with $200,000 to the player with the lowest individual score over the weekend.

Confirmed in the line-up for Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande are leading Spanish players Maria Hernandez, currently in the top 30 of the LET’s Race to Costa Del Sol ranking, and three-time LET tournament winner Nuria Iturrioz. They will be joined by rising stars Natasha Fear, Carmen Alonso and Noemi Jimenez Martin – alongside the leading players in Europe.

Maria Hernandez said: “It’s incredibly exciting to see the new global Aramco Team Series format come to my home country. It’s a huge chance for us to show the world Spanish golf at it best and for fans to also attend, with Spanish players getting exposure and backing on the Ladies European Tour. Seeing is believing and this is a chance to inspire more women in Spain, and across the globe, to get into golf and sports in general.”

The unique Aramco Team Series format offers amateur players the chance to play on the pro tour alongside some of the biggest names in women’s golf.

All teams competing will feature three LET players paired through a unique draft system, in which captains choose one player and are assigned another. The fourth member of each team will be an amateur golfer – a position open to all golfers in Spain through the tournament’s Team Up competition.

That means it could fall to an amateur golfer to hole an LET tournament-winning putt to secure prize money for the professional players, a feature unique to world golf.

Natasha Fear added: “Having a chance as an amateur player, no matter your handicap, to join the professional ladies for the event is such a unique and cool opportunity. Team Up gives fans of the game a special chance to experience life on tour over three days of competition; improve their games from the best in the business; and have some fun along the way.”

The event is the second of five Aramco-sponsored events scheduled in 2021, which opened with victory for Team Olivia Cowan at the Aramco Team Series – London tournament held at the Centurion Club last weekend.

Following Spain, the next Aramco Team Series event moves to New York (October 14-16) with the final leg in Jeddah (November 10-12). The Jeddah competition will take place just days after the Aramco Saudi Ladies International, presented by the Public Investment Fund, being held November 4-7.

The tournament will adhere to COVID-19 protocols, as well as local and government guidelines. For more information on attending, visit aramcoteamseries.com or follow the event on social media @aramco_series.

Amateur players can win a chance to join the pros as part of the Team Up competition by sending a video playing golf, using #ATSTeamUp.
